The bookproject 'Loveways'
is displayed at the fair Photokina,
in the area 'Academy meets Photokina',

The project "On either side of the wall - 24 hours everyday life in Israel and Palestine/Westbank' was chosen form more than 50 applicants from Germany and Europe! It is displayed in the area 'Academy meets Photokina' hall 1, stand 13!
The bookproject 'One day in Germany' is officially presented on the 22nd of September in hall 4.1, stand G38. The 7th of May was an ordinary Friday, and yet it will be remembered for a long time. Because that day 432 photographers, Melanie Bauer as one of them, travelled throughout Germany with their cameras to capture what took place: in schools and living rooms, on football grounds and airports, in parliaments and discotheques. They travelled through villages and towns and were on the look out to capture moments which represent this country.
A special authentic view was required for this unique project. Photographers have always researched and documented societies ? in their whole breadth and depth and independent of editorial assignments. They did the same with this project, »One Day in Germany«, without regards for the demands of the media. The pictures »tell« what Germany really »looks like«. The exceptional documentation of an ordinary Friday in Germany also highlights the social and cultural relevance of high quality images.
The project was initiated by the photographers association FREELENS, that now has more than 2 000 members, who work for all the renowned magazines and publishers.
The bilingual book (German/English) will be available by end of September at dpunkt.verlag.

Melanie Bauer and Frauke Boensch's image 'photoshop kills' won the competition!
"The contest "Photography today - between authentic document and artifical world" required participants to adress the question of what significance photography has today. Melanie Bauer and Frauke Boensch convinced the jury with their digital meta-photography, polemically titled "photoshop kills". It shows two women, one dressed normally with jeans and sweater, the other wearing a tight dress, holding a handgun to her neighbour's temples. At a second glance, it becomes obvious: both are the same person - however, one is natural and the other photoshoped. Indeed, the image reflects a crucial problem of the medium."

The exhibition 'Figurama' is an international project, involving eleven art academies from Germany (University Of Applied Science, Mainz), Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, USA and Japan participate. It focuses mainly on nude drawings of 'the figure'. This year, the exhibition also features a selection of photographies and films, focussing on 'the figure' in general . The exhibition is in Mainz/Germany until 20th of October, then will visit each city of the participating academies.
